Make Decluttering a Part of Your Daily Routine

You’re busy. Maybe you’re working, volunteering, raising kids, watching grandkids, or just out changing the world. You don’t have hours to dedicate to decluttering—but the good news is, you don’t need them.
Decluttering doesn’t have to be a major event. Instead of waiting for the perfect time, build it into your existing routine. Slow and steady wins the race.

Decluttering in Small Moments
Start with what’s easy. While waiting for your coffee, pick out your favorite mugs and eliminate the rest. When grabbing a spoon, remove the old mismatched ones you never use.
Keep what you truly love, and let go of the excess. My philosophy? “Keep the best, reduce the rest.” You’ll appreciate the extra space far more than hanging on to things just in case someone might need them someday.
Let New Things Replace Old Ones
When you bring something new into your home, take out the thing it replaces. Chances are, you’ll only want to use the new one anyway.
If it’s something you added to a collection, go through and see if there are duplicates or pieces you can let go of. If it’s been sitting unused for months—or years—it’s safe to say you won’t miss it.
Keep a Giveaway Box Handy
Make decluttering effortless by keeping a bag or box for giveaways near your front door or inside your closet. When you come across things you no longer need, drop them in right away.
That way, instead of debating what to keep, you’re naturally clearing space a little at a time.
Declutter While Doing Laundry
One of the easiest ways to declutter is during laundry. When you put away clean clothes, take a quick look at what’s already in the drawer or closet.
The things in the laundry are what you actually wear—the rest have been sitting there, untouched. Now is the time to let them go.
If something is worn out, stained, or unusable, toss it. If it’s still in good shape but you’re tired of it, it doesn’t fit, or you just have too many, donate it.
Decluttering as a Lifestyle
It’s not about making time—it’s about using the moments you already have. Decluttering in small doses makes it manageable, so when the time comes to move, your home is already lighter, more organized, and truly filled with only what you love.
